Artist Statement
As I begin my creative process, I am often inspired by life and nature. I consider my art as the expression of growing spring: yellow as the color of sun and heat; blue expresses life, water and serenity; and the red reflects my optimism, my courage and my creativity. These main colors are the basis of my paintings, because their characteristics are what guides my life.
I like the challenge of painting a variety of subjects (landscapes / seascapes, still lifes, flowers), all that inspires me at every moment. I consider that I have the opportunity to create and awaken feelings in the observer and freeze time, capture the movement and simplicity of life, or show an infinite second of light inside of my painting. For this reason, I love sharing my paintings with others, sharing my vision of world.
I work in Impressionism and I am interested in models, movements, feelings and emotions to influence my work. Struggling for a minimum of strokes, I paint with the technique «alla prima» (wet on wet), I have to move and think quickly using my palette knives and brush. After sketching my scene in creamy yellow (clear for the light paintings) or amber yellow (obscure for the dark paintings), making sure to create a harmonious balance between form and composition, I then pre-mix my color palette. I do not limit the number of colors I use, getting powerful and expressive colors. I’m not shy when it comes to painting on canvas, by applying a wet-on-wet technique, and without overlaying or diluting my strokes brush or my knives with terebenthine or other washes, my application of the painting reveals an extraordinary intrepidity: using a brush loaded thick color and bold impasto lines, I do not pass on the canvas that only once. This technique creates brush strokes with bright impressionist colors and movement in the painting.
